In June 2007 Carl graduated from Walla Walla College with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. Now he is a graduate student at the University of Oregon where he is working on a masters in human physiology, specializing in biomechanics. It has been a fascinating transition for him from the physical sciences to the life sciences. Biomechanics requires all his engineering skills, but instead of working with machines he works with the human skeletal structure. Currently Carl is exploring robotics applications in biomechanics research.
After his masters, Carl plans to attend medical school. Orthopedic surgery and neuro/spine surgery are his primary interests, and are a practical application of mechanical and biomechanical skills. Carl hopes to bring an interdisciplinary approach and unique perspective to this field. |
